Historical Artwork: Jacob

Jacob & Esau were twins.

Their parents were Isaac & Rebekah

Esau was the oldest twin - the heir to Isaac’s estate.

In Genesis 27 - Jacob took Esau’s birthright from him. After Isaac gave the special blessing to Jacob - Jacob was in trouble!

In Genesis 28, Isaac blesses Jacob again, and tells him to move on and begin a new life.

This is where Jacob meets God and hears from Him in a dream. Genesis 28:10-22

In Genesis 29 & 30, Jacob starts to build a life for himself.

In Genesis 31, God tells Jacob to move back home to the land of Canaan, where his Father Isaac lived. Genesis 31:18

Jacob makes peace with his Father-In-Law Laban and then send gifts to Esau in an attempt to make peace with him.

In Genesis 32:22-32 Jacob wrestles with God and wins - God changes Jacobs name to Israel - which means - God Fights.

In Genesis 33, Jacob makes peace with Esau.

Jacob tricked Esau, Laban tricked Jacob - Jacob’s children would go on to fight with 1 another as well.

Esau was wronged and Jacob

Jacob was wronged by Laban

Nothing was resolved, returned or given back - BUT! Peace was made between everyone.

There isn’t even a verbal, “I’m sorry” in either story of reconciliation - yet peace and understanding seem to occur.

In both situations, it was a choice each person made - to choose to “be in peace” with the other person despite the injustice that occurred.
